Just to break the "monotony" of wetlands birding, I visited my favorite spot in Tiaong, Quezon province, where this beautiful endemic kingfisher holds court. It always makes an appearance whenever I come to this place, and this December 29 visit was no exception. But I had to wait the whole day and endure nasty mosquito bites before I was able to behold its beauty. ;D The bird is not as approachable as that I captured in 2005, but I was given the privilege of a few shots nonetheless. Once again, I had to resort to super-slow shutter speeds to expose the bird using available light it its dark habitat . Indigo-banded Kingfisher ( Alcedo cyanopecta, male) 40D + 500 f4 IS + Canon 1.4x TC, 700 mm, f/7.1, ISO 320, 0.5 sec shutter speed, manual focus via Live View, manual exposure in available understory light, 475B/3421 support:Romy

I keep looking again and again. Even if your first one is so good already, they are new everytime. I like to put a bird in my screen but a butterfly will have to go. Gosh, life is difficult. telyd

Oooh. I just got back from Boso-boso. Sat still for a total of 2.5hours waiting for the IBKF but did not show up. I guess it got scared away by either the firecrackers in the nearby street or the neighbor's karaoke revellers singing "Otso-otso."
Now that you've got us drooling, you'll have to PM us where to find this beauty!

What a beauty! Ganyan pala birding outings, travel far, long waits, mosquito bites and a reward with an awesome photo if your lucky. Aside from mosquito bites, expect occasional encounters with wild bees, snakes and leeches in some areas Its ok for me specially if the CF cards are already filled with lifers... Romy even volunteered to donate blood to the leeches of Mt. Makiling in exchange for Guaiberos and Colasisis HAHAHA Nilo

Wow. Haven't shared anything in that forum since we had ours. Posted my owl photo there, too, just now. Hoping to give my ego a bit of a boost.

A great shot ..... that only an expert like Romy can make. This shot gave this often ignored bird the needed focus.

I may not the able to wait that long but for sure the reward was fantastic. Now I am afraid to bird there as I mostly average only for 2 hours and from the looks of it, not much in 2 hours. Will just feast my eyes on your captures Great take Romy. cheers, gil
