The moon was about 51 - 53% last night, and at a focal length of around 2263 mm, it almost fully filled the frame of the 40D. Live View makes it easier, not only to focus manually and tame mirror slap, but more importantly to keeping the moon within the center of the frame. The clearances of the moon from the edges of the frame are narrow, and at 2263 mm, the subject moves quite fast (though still slow enough to be reasonably frozen by 1/25 sec shutter speed). The canvas (black BG) was as shot.... untouched/uncropped except resizing the photo to 50%, i.e. there was no need to reposition the subject in the frame. Processed 100% crop:

Wow (again) mastah, great details!
I thought 1/25s is too slow for the moon. But you've proven that it can be done at that SS.
If there's an astronaut on the surface, he can basically wave at you. ;D

Thanks, Ted.... I believe 1/20 sec can still do it at that focal length. I was also to try it at that shutter speed last night (and lower the ISO from 400 to 320), by the clouds came in.

Just awesome, Mastah. Really lots of detail. Perhaps you can establish your own moon observatory. ;D

I was looking at the half moon too last night and was so glad to see the details today. Great shot Mastah. You really mastered the super extended long lens technique.
