Other wildlife shots, while birding in the Lake Tahoe basin area. Chipmunks are cute.

Hello Ted, Nice chipmunk shots. I also was able to get a photo of a chipmunk when we visited the Bronx Zoo in NY. The chipmunks there were quite tame so I was able to get relatively close before it scampered away. Here is the photo though not as good a quality as that of yours. Tried correcting the red-eye but this is the best I can do. Need to learn more post-processing techniques. ;D

Thanks Romy and Eric. I'm actually keeping an eye on ground squirrels I've read that's common in the area. These ground squirrels are often mistaken as chipmunks, but without stripes on the head (like a regular squirrel). I thought I alread got a capture of a ground squirrel, so I stopped chasing one (there's lots of them where there's vegetation, like bushes, the meadow, where trees are, and even on campgrounds) . Anyway, chipmunks are ok. Eric, new yorkers are really tough huh. The ones I saw are very skittish, they hide right away when they notice me around. Actually, for those captures of chipmunks, they froze hoping I won't notice them. So I have to move slowly, Once I make abrupt movements, they run away. Go to Central Park, and spend the whole day over there. Rent (or bring) a bike, so you won't get tired walking around, it's a big place. You can see several wildlife over there. You'll be surprised what you'll see in the ponds. Amazing, to think that it's in the middle of Manhattan. I think Spring is a good time, but autumn will be nice as well. This Fall, go to Bear mountain upstate NY. There's a park where there's a lake/lagoon. There's a trail around the lake you can walk around. Best time to go is when then foliage are bright yellows, reds and orange. Bring lunch or snacks for the picnic. On your way there, the Palisades Interstate Parkway has great sceneries too. And while in the area, make a quick stop at the West Point Military Academy (where some world leaders trained/studied, like ex-President Ramos), go to the museum, or even see a nice view of the Hudson River. Let me know if you have any questions. Though its been 8 years since I move to the west coast, I'll try my best. Ooooh, I miss the NY/NJ area.

Wohoo!!! You know your way around NY/NJ Ted! I don't even know those places. Hehehe.... Haven't really gone around to visit places yet. But very soon, I will be going to those places you mentioned. Also, I noticed that the chipmunks (or were they ground squirrels? ) I saw have short tails unlike those in your photos. So, what do you think? Are they ground squirrels? They seem to have faint face stripes.

Not sure either, not an expert on rodents. I think the best who can answer this is either Alvin, Simon, or Theodore. ;D ;D ;D
