Maybe to lure some small insect like flies, which usually clings to similar things like that.
Or use it like a whip for defense?

Thanks Ted, Ka Romy. I took this from inside the van on our way to Balsahan. Trinket, one of the best birdwatchers of WBCP, has trained eyes and spotted it while we were moving. Here's the actual distance just to give you an idea. With your monster, I'm sure you would have captured the fire coming out of its mouth.
