Two weeks ago, I went to Hardin and unfortunately, there was a man with a fishing line doing his thing and yes, of course, the waders were shooed away. There were birds cheerping merrily, playfully flying from one tree to another- the trees just right beside the building. I was lucky to pin one, thought it was a GBF (maybe it is) but the bird call was different and there is a ring around the eye. It's not a LWE, or is it? Please help id. telyd

Hmmmm.... very interesting bird, TeLyds. The bill looks too short for a Lowland WE, but I've no idea what the birds is!

I sent the link to WBCP and the comments are below. Now I have learned my lesson. When in Hardin, don't always think that the noisy birds close to the building are only ETS and YVBs. The only reason why I bothered was because there was a man fishing with a long line in the kangkungan and I was willing to shoot anything. Maybe Doc Mando has a shot of this bird. Anybody else frequenting Hardin? The comments from Mads Bajardias and Desmond Allen, Re: [wbcp] Please ID this bird Hi Ate Lyds, Des and all: Kennedy entry for Golden-bellied Flyeater doesn't mention a whitish eye-ring, which is interesting. The whitish eyering is illustrated in Robson and is shown clearly in Birds of Thailand by Webster and Fook.. It's also mentioned in Philip Round of "Birds of Bangkok Area" on juvenile GBF: "juveniles have whiter, more washed-out underparts and usually a diffuse whitish area above and below the eye." Eyering just overlooked detail in Kennedy or a matter of subspecies difference? mads --- On Thu, 9/18/08, Desmond Allen <dnsallen@...> wrote: From: Desmond Allen <dnsallen@...> Subject: Re: [wbcp] Please ID this bird To: wbcp@yahoogroups.com Date: Thursday, September 18, 2008, 6:40 PM I think it is an immature Flyeater. It seems to show a fleshy coloured gape indicating a juvenile. The proportions are about right though most pics seem to show a shorter tail for flyeater. And there is a photo of a chick in a nest on OBI that shows white eyerings. However, I don't remember ever seeing a bird like this. Maybe propjerry could confirm the appearance of young flyeaters? cheers Des [/quote]
