Here is a photo of one of the birds we saw during yesterdays sortie with Aphine, Tina, Propjerry and Des in Batangas. It was more of a recon of bird species found there than anything else. I'm too tired to PP the rest, more to come. Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) Cheers, Neon

Nice one Neon ! It's as if the stilt wants to jump out of the photo. Me too, I'm dead tired - HehEHheEHeheHe but I do know that you are SUPER dead tired compared to me specially after going to the "Mountain of a hill".

There were more than 30 species that Propjerry and Des noted. The area was not at all photographer friendly. You have to wear thick soled hiking boots to protect you from the aroma thorns. Even my boots got penetrated several time and I had to take out my boots and pull the thorns out with long nose pliers.
I was fortunate to see an opening in the tangle of aroma branches that was acting as a blind to get close to the stilts. If not for a mound of soft clay I would not have enough height to get my camera's line of sight through this hole. And the mound crumbled when I stepped on it to just the right height. We literally have to almost crawl underneath the aroma forest to avoid the thorns. What a way to go to get this shot!!
The species I was able to shoot were: 1. Black-winged stilts 2. Chinese Egret - not sure if it is 3. Kentish Plover 4. Asian Golden Plover 5. Blue Tailed Bee-eater 6. Green Shank?? 7. Philippine Duck 8. Pygmy Woodpecker 9. Gray Heron 10. Great Egret etc.
The place has a lot to offer but you have to be of the adventurous type to get good photos. We also saw the habitat of the Savanna Nightjar. If we are careful enough to look for them we could get close and get a photo of this bird.
There were also reports from the locals of Tabon Scrubfowls that is often seen in the area. It is good that this locals are environmentally aware already and have started to protect the wildlife and it's habitat, thanks to the NGOs that are frequenting the area. They even have 4 turtle nest protected on the beach with enclosures and are ready to hatch anytime from yesterday.
Photos to follow when this throbbing headache of mine is gone. Cheers,
Neon

The Kentish Plover, Nightjar and the famous San Juan lomi (noodle soup) look very interesting to me. Thanks for the sortie report, Neon! Romy

Looks like there are indeed a lot of birds... we just need to establish the good shooting zones. Romy
