Hi Guys, I have decided to upgrade my birding lens, so i'm letting go of my Sigma 170-500. I am very happy with images taken with this lens, but upgrading to OS is very tempting. Hello Romy,
i just inquired from Joy of JT a few days ago, and it's available for 45k. If i may ask your expert opinion, would i get sharper images with the 50-500 instead? Those are the two lenses that i am seriously considering for my next purchase, and might get an 80-400 VR for handheld shooting... but, if i were to take budget and practicality into consideration, maybe the !50-500 has the best of both worlds! Long reach and OS!
Pls Help me decide mastah!!!!!!

Neon and Bong are early buyers (EOS mount), they should be in a better position to give you first-hand feedback. JT actually made available a review copy for us a few weeks ago. I went to their Makati shop to pick it up, unfortunately that copy was soft. Last week, JT called me that a new shipment arrived. I haven't found the time yet to pick up the review sample and do the tests. As regards the Bigma, there are copy-to-copy variations too, but this is a matured design and good samples are very sharp at 500 mm wide open. It doesn't have OS though. US-based Gil T. is using a Sony A700 (with in-body IS) + a Bigma, and his bird photos are world-class. The 80-400 VR is very good optically (see photos by Martin and JP here), but its AF motor is a tad slower. Romy

Hi JV. My copy of the Sigma 150-500mm is nowhere near my Canon 300mm & 400mm lenses as far as sharpness is concerned, though I haven't really tested it mounted on a tripod. But the sheer enjoyment of having a hand holdable 500mm stabilized lens convinced me to take the plunge.
I just hope that I can still develop the proper shooting technique with telephoto lenses to improve my shots. I also posted some photos taken from this lens in Neon's thread.
