Nice catch, Carmela..... very tough to ID small raptors, let's wait for Steve to give his analysis. Yes, it looks like there's a band around the left tarsus... it somehow gives me an impression of an Accipiter soloensis, but no certainty on that. Would you remember if it looked like this (Chinese Goshawk)? Romy

A Grey-faced Buzzard [Butastur indicus] to me. Nilo I chanced upon this raptor while walking through a coconut plantation. I didn't have my binocs with me but my Canon Powershot. I managed to go close enough to get these shots before it flew away. It always had its back to me so I couldn't see its breast feathers. Is the bird wearing a band?

carmela, yes i think it is wearing a leg band. probably an escapee or a rehabilitated raptor.

Carmela, our birdlist in Villa Escudero last november recorded a grey-faced buzzard, the raptor was seen flying.

Hi Felix. I do see them occassionally but they are usually flying and they give out their characterisic "tik-wee" call which helps me identify them. I'm still sariwa compared to you. ;D
