I spotted my first brown shrikes this season a few days ago. It's exhilarating that I shouted to call my Mom’s attention. I knew I have been hearing a noisy bunch of birds every morning. I still can’t distinguish the bird call of a brown shrike but I know they are noisy. I also witnessed how the shrike tries to fight with a fantail for “territory.” Waiting for a prey... The blossoms of this plant attracts the Sunbird. The first time I saw this plant with Sunbirds was in Coron. It looks like its from the banana family but does not bear any fruit. It is nice & convenient to have a tree like that in your garden to take pictures of the birds. Nicely done Mark & Mabuhay. i think i was inspired with a shot of a scarlet-breasted sunbird perched on the blossom of a banana. i just can't remember whose photo is it. when mom told me that she saw sunbirds in the garden, i readily suspected that they were attracted to the blossom. good thing that i was able to chance upon them. they normally goes to the blossom during the time i'm in the office. thank you for appreciating, kuya ely!

Great shots! Were the first 2 taken later than the others? Or have they been developing at different rates? thank you, kuya des! the first two were taken at latter time. i just don't know if i was able to photograph the sunbirds as they developed. however, it seems to me that they are different from each other. mom told me that she was able to see at least three pairs before i was able to take these shots.

Interesting shots. Notice how worn the outer tail feathers of the fantail are. It looks like it has already regrown or is regrowing the inner feathers. Do you have a date for this photo? the photo of fantail was taken last august 9.

I love it when I see the sparkle in the eyes of the spiders. They are like gems. Imagine that spiders have eight eyes. Amazing! Mom told me that Dad call this particular spider as money maker. Again using my 18-55mm with taped magnifying glass on front. Plus a dedicated flash (not a macro flash). 55mm, f/8, 1/30 sec., ISO-200 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800

Macros during the long August weekeds... using my handy-dandy 18-55mm and magnifying glass. There wasn't any birds, so I settled with the spiders. These spiders are so small that it was so difficult to shoot them. I call this the gladiator. Look at the trail of death... and he managed to do that even at the expense of losing one leg. 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800 55mm, f/8, 1/30 sec., ISO-200

I just observed that they have been mating for 10 minutes or so. So I called them the love bugs. 55mm, f/6.3, 1/125 sec., ISO-800

Mom always tells me that she have been seeing sunbirds in our neighbor's garden. I patiently waited by my window during the past weekends and I was fortunate to see them finally. The photos of the mature olive-backed sunbirds are not so good because of our jalousies. What I have here are the juvenile birds. Had no time to go to the field to bird because of the rains and because of my slipped disk pain attacks. But my immediate surrounding provides me opportunities to shoot any birds that I see from my window.
