These pictures of the Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) were taken at the Coastal Lagoon sometime ago. When I saw how close the bird was, I got interested to process it and found out that it was taken at 7.25 meters. Size to A3 and no further cropping. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f5.6L IS USM. Manual exposure in available light. Placed lens foot on top of concrete wall under the cover of some tree branches. 1/1000 sec., f/8, ISO 800 1/1000 sec., f/8, ISO 800

AMAZING shot and impressive details!!! These are the kinds of shots that we always dream to happen all the time! Congratulations, Ely! Thank you Ariel. Somehow I have the feeling that it won't be long that someone will come out with a feed that will attract birds to it and than birding will just be trying to get the best photograph of that bird. It may not be right now so in the meantime it will still be a struggle for us to look for birds. LOL

It is about time we consider buying a hide. Do you know where we can get a good one? Ely, I have 3 hides. I've been using it since last year. One for high standing and one for low angle shoot (Waders) bought it in the USA. Here's the link ... www.cabelas.com/

That is a great site for hides. Could you email me at elyteejr2008@gmail.com which one you recommend. I would prefer the hide that you can sit or stand with your tripod mounted. Thank you Boymac.

I wonder why women enjoy shopping. LOL. Thank you Boymac for your suggestions. I have been reading the reviews to help me decide.

Great details and great photo Sir Ely. You really nailed these shots. Thank you Eric. I saw a book on birds and most of the beautiful captures were taken from a hide as the bird is not aware of any threat to its well being. I guess this is how they are able to get close and get good pictures.
