I had an hour of birding at a park in Sagada, apart from the Scale-feathered Malkoha here are the other birds I've captured in this short time. This place has a big potential to get a bigger haul and it is very photographer friendly. If anyone would plan to bird this place sometime in the future I highly recommend it. The only problem is getting there. ;D Mountain Verditer-Flycatcher ( Eumyias panayensis) 40D + 300 mm f4 + 1.4x Kenko TC, f5.6, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Handheld, Raw capture Blue-headed Fantail ( Rhipidura cyaniceps) 40D + 300 mm f4 + 1.4x Kenko TC, f5.6, 1/125 sec, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Handheld, Raw capture

Nice set, Neon... how's the road condition? Thanks Master Romy!! There's more to come ;D I'll just say it this way, My Crosswind was fully loaded with 7 persons with there luggages plus the things they bought along the way. I could say the roads were excellent. There were several portions that experienced recent landslides but it was cleared already. The roads were not that muddy considering the recent rains. In only one portion I got stuck coming down in Mount Polis, where the center of the road got high from the passing of larger vehicles, due to the the lowered clearance of the car. I asked the passengers to bail out and we were off again. The mornings are clear but starts to rain mid afternoon. You could just imagine my discomfort when I heard lots of bird songs in a stretch of road in Mount Polis but could not stop

The last time I was at Sagada, the roads were really bad. It's nice to hear the roads are now paved.
Wonderful harvest Neon! Thanks for sharing!

Congratulations Neon on the big haul At least your captures during this trip was more successful than the last one. Maybe my 2nd trip there would be more fruitful too - wonder when that will be Funny Gaea's blog .... something kingfisher and the very beautiful scale feathered malkoha was a treat to see.

Thanks Tina, I thought this one was a new bird, but the orange vent and black undertails feathers gave it away...Is the ID right?? Thanks William, And there is always the lucky shot...while the kids were buying some souvenir at the Sagada Weavers Shop I saw this raptor hovering at a distance circling, with each complete circle coming closer. I grabbed my gear from the car, just after I took out the lens cap and extended the lens hood the bird decided to fly straight and cross the road at a fast and straight line. On a single shot mode and with just one frame left on my CF memory (I've change the CF card already earlier but I showed someone the photos inside and forgot to replace it back with a fresh CF card, while doing so I deleted a photo that was not good enough to give the resulting single shot.) adjusted the shutter to get the right exposure then clicked away. I was waiting for the machine gun sound but it never came. ;D with a click this is what I've got... It was a little bit under exposed, just adjusted it in ACR using Fill light and and adjusted some more in PS using a Layer on screen mode then moved the opacity slider to get this outcome. Common Buzzard ( Buteo buteo) 40D + 300 mm f4 + 1.4x Kenko TC, f5.6, 1/2500 sec, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Handheld, Raw capture As I've said this is the last shot on this CF there's the other one that was supposed to be in the camera ;D...more to come...

By now, the Nuthatch is split from frontalis, with which it has been found it is not even that closely related by the way. It is more closely related to the birds ranging in southern China and Hainan, i.e., Sitta solangiae. So, this is more correctly Sitta oenochlamys isarog. S. frontalis still does range in Phils, but only on Palawan and a couple other circumvicinous islands in the quality of race palawana.
