Here is a photo of a Spotted Wood Kingfisher, taken at La Mesa Echo Park. Sony a77ii with Sony 500mm f/4.0 at f/8.0, 1/20s (handheld!), ISO 400. Here is a link to a higher resolution: Flickr(I can't believe how you guys take photos in the dark like this!) Out of dozens, only this shot came out OK.

Thank you Romy and Bobby. This was a frantic shot. Aperture setting was unintended. This bird was perched 10-12 feet above me. I waited 2 hours for a better angle when it dove in the ground for food. Frantically, I dismounted my camera from the tripod, scoured the forest ground for a closer shot. I must have fired around 30 frames and only got 2 decent shots while constantly changing settings not realising I bumped the aperture. At any rate, I missed all the feeding actions because they all came out dark. At least I got this as a keepsake.

Thank you Doc William. It took sometime to find it where you told me where it hangs. This bird doesn't move much. It's easier to detect them if there's movement. Of course, not having seen it before doesn't help. So, this was a lifer.
