Hello everyone, This photo got my attention while checking on some photos which reminds me of my "naked" birding trip north of Cebu. "Naked" means I do not have binoculars or spotting scope while attending to about 35 first time birdwatchers. This reminds me that you don't have to use equipment to enjoy the outdoors. Of course in the between birdwatching sessions... I managed to take snapshots of the local avifauna including this Crake. Nicely done, Nilo.... very pleasing environment and pose!
This shot graphically demonstrates why the crake evolved elongated toes - to spread its weight well when walking on floating leaves or vegetation.

I agree with the elongated toes... it makes it easier for these birds to negotiate this type of habitat. Thanks, Romy.

I have not seen this bird for sometime. With Candaba being converted to rice land, the "Home of Migratory Birds" is history. There may be sprinkling of birds but definitely not the thousand of birds that we uses to see flying around in circles before landing again in the ponds. I have to go to Cebu to see this bird. Well done Nilo & Mabuhay.
