The Red-headed Flameback Chrysocolaptes eryhtrocephalus can be found in Balabac, Palawan, Calamian group. Told from the similar looking Common Flameback in Palawan by the pale color of the beak, red on throat and face, and the spots on the upper breast 600mm 1.4x tc, 1/100, f8, iso 800

Beautiful shot, I wonder if the bird is still in the process of completing its feathers as the feathers on the head is not so red yet. Well done Tonji & Mabuhay.

Thanks guys.
We were just talking and taking a group photo when this bird just landed right in front of us. Out in the open with a clean perch. I had a clean shot. Unusual for a bird to land almost right on top of us. Unusual, but in a good way.
Neon- this is in a mangrove tree area so the leaves were not an issue and I did not use a flash.
