This photo of the Rufous Hornbill was taken in eastern Mindanao last March 2013.
It was the end of a long/tiring but productive birding day deep in the forest of Surigao. The gears (tripods, camera, lens, etc) were already packed in the vehicle and the birders were almost settled in their seats when someone shouted "hornbills"!!
My lens and camera bag were in the forward section of the jeepney. I cannot wait for my companions to alight from the the vehicle so I got the camera and lens from the side. The tripod was securely placed underneath the seats (again, no time for that as well) so I decided to take this shot hand held.
Sharing this photo in celebration of the 6th International Hornbill Conference (April 24 to 27, 2013) here in Makati, Philippines.
Thanks for viewing.
