Today (4/7/13) I accompanied Doc William Lim and wife to do birding at IRRI Lowland Experimental Station. The main target birds were the Greater Painted Snipes and we were not disappointed.
For my part, I also did some field testing of the Kenko 2x TC in tandem with my new f4 lens and the Canon 5D Mark III. Whereas the Canon 2x TC does not autofocus with the 5Dm3, the Kenko autofocuses like a charm. So while awaiting for the firmware update that will hopefully work with the Canon 2x TC, the Kenko is the next best alternative. Expectedly there is some softness in the images but being able to photograph both distant and near subjects at 1000 mm is some feat I do rejoice. I am still quite pleased with the image quality, especially after doing some post processing.
All pictures used the Canon EOS 5D Mark III and EF 500 mm L IS II USM, with Kenko Pro 300 DGX 2X TC, car window support in natural light. Effective focal length is 1000 mm.
