During my Bislig birding trip 3 weeks ago, I was waiting for the Silvery Kingfisher to appear, when "bird whisperer" Zardo Goring came running and said a pair of Rufous-Fronted Tailorbirds was coming. Sure enough, they arrived seconds later, and I had my closest encounter ever with tailorbirds! What a thrill! A LIFER! ;D RUFOUS-FRONTED TAILORBIRD (Orthotomus frontalis) Endemic. This is presumably the frontalis subspecies of Mindanao. A recent or suggested split from the Philippine Tailorbird (Orthotomus castaneiceps). Taken at PICOP forest, Bislig, Surigao del Sur on 3/2/13. Canon 1DX camera, 800 mm lens, tripod. This appears to be the female RFTB. F/6.3, ISO-3200, 1/1250 second. Then the female RFTB was chased away by this male who started singing. F/6.3, ISO-3200, 1/1250 second. The male RFTB. F/6.3, ISO-3200, 1/1250 second. The male RFTB. F/6.3, ISO-3200, 1/1250 second. BLACK-HEADED TAILORBIRD (Orthotomus nigriceps) Uncommon endemic found only in Mindanao. Taken in PICOP forest in Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Mindanao on 3/2/13. This was one of the most difficult birds to capture and one of my most frustrating experiences ever. It was getting dark when a total of 3 BHTBs jumped and flitted in and out of the ground foliage, never staying in one spot for more than 2 seconds. It took me 15 minutes of trying before I got this docu photo. This was a long-distance shot from 20+ meters away. Another LIFER! ;D F/6.3, ISO-4000, 1/200 second.

Hi Ramon, I don't think we met po Actually, I was not there during the ribbon cutting... and just barely made it with the group in exhibit area after the opening. Hope to meet you there or in the conference area. Thanks, Nilo. Good to finally meet you at the Hornbill Conference the other day.
