Dear fellow birdnuts, It was unusually wet (raining every day) on Mt. Kitanglad during our trip last January. I did not expect much but was pleasantly surprised to see this flycatcher while negotiating the muddy/slippery trail towards the eagle watchpoint. This would be my first lifer for 2013. Thanks for viewing.

Congratulations Nilo on your first lifer for the year. I first heard of the Mugimaki Flycatcher from Ramon Quisumbing when he discovered the bird at Mount Banahaw. I got a good look at it at Fraser's Hill on my first trip to Fraser's Hill. A wonderful bird to see and photograph. I noticed that you used your lighter lens to climb Mt. Kitanglad. Well done & Mabuhay.

Beautiful captures of the male Mugimaki FC, Nilo! I captured the female in Mt. Banahaw months ago but have never seen the much more colorful male. Congrats on your lifer!

Thanks so much for the comments guys. I was out birding since January this year with very limited Internet access time. Hope I can process/post some bird photos soon.
@ely, the 300mm f/2.8 is not mine. Tateo let me borrow the lens for this trip for a "Close Quarter Battle (CQB)" with the montane birds there. The 600mm is just too long for understory birding.
@ramon, I searched for the female but for some reason failed to locate the partner of this bird. I'm sure in due time you will be able to capture the male in your place.
