I have not been to La Mesa Eco Park for some time and I heard that the Red-bellied Pittas is now seen more frequently. I tried to find the it, but was not able to see it at all. The trip was still worthwhile when I got to see & photographed the Ashy Ground-Thrush and the Mangrove Blue Flycatcher. Canon EOS 1DX, Canon EF 800mm f5.6L IS USM, Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, M-3.6 Mongoose Gimbal Action Head. Manual exposure in available light. Ashy Ground-Thrush (Zoothera cinerea) 7 1/2 inches. What KGB would describe as uncommon, shy, and hard to see is now a resident at the LMEP. It is quite dark in the area where it is constantly searching for insects to eat but with patience one has a good chance of seeing this Philippine endemic. 1/25 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 1/20 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 1/20 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800 It is always a delight to see the Mangrove Blue Flycatcher (Cyornis rufigastra) 5 1/2 inches and I was able to see a pair of them. 1/160 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 (Female) 1/400 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 (Female) 1/160 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 (Male)

Thank you Ramon. The weather is so unpredictable nowadays. I was surprised that it rained last Sunday. It is March and summer is about a week away. I guess we have about two months left for good weather birding before the rainy season starts on June. As they say better make hay when the sun is shining.

Thank you William. I know that you are very busy as I don't see those clear and sharp pictures that you used to post here. Take a break and do some of the things that you like best and share it with us. Cheers.

All nice shots, Ely. The Ashy Ground Thrush photos I like. Thank you Tateo. This bird is hard to find but somehow it has made the LMEP its home and is no longer difficult to find. Other than this place I do not know where else you can find this bird. If you do plan to take a picture of this bird make it soon before it finds another home.

Nice to see the regulars of LMEP. But I heard that they are planning to build a zipline along this area, that would be detrimental to our feathered friends when they construct that and the noisy crowed that will pass through to get to the ride. :-(
I thought the long thread like dirt was on you sensor right on the V of the branch of the 2nd MBFC photo :-) It's actually suspended on a web that is barely visible on the first one. Great shots on this series, Ely!

Great shots on this series, Ely! Thank you Neon. It was good to see you yesterday with your fast recovery. I guess the chance to see a bird was the best medicine. LOL. Nobody noticed that piece of vine that seems like to be floating but as you said it got on a web. There were other instances that you saw things that I did not see like the missing toe of the Greater Flameback and the spearing of the bangus by the Purple Heron in San Juan, Batangas. I guess your attention for details is what makes you a good photographer. Cheers & Mabuhay.

Very nice photos Ka Ely. You should go back to that place more often. :-) Thank you Bobby. I would like to but they are now in the process of constructing a zip line that will run thru the forest. I do not know if the birds will still be there. It is indeed very unfortunate that they have allowed the commercial use of this forest to sustain the park. This is a place where birds that are rarely seen like the Ashy Ground Thrush and Red-bellied Pitta are often heard and seen.
