Canon 7D 400mm 5.6L,1/5 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 1000 on tripod. Taken at the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary with the help of a great guide called Vinod.I only had my 400 mm lens and in getting the required distance away was unable to get a good, clear shot. There was a pair of these nearby and the problems were even worse. If only I had taken my 24-70 2.8L I could have got some much better shots, especially of the male and female,as it was possible to get within 2 or 3 feet without spooking them. 20121116-IMG_7896 Ceylon Frogmouth by Mick Harris, on Flickr

That is incredible Mick to be within 2-3 feet of a Frogmouth. You should always have a point and shoot in your pocket. LOL.

You are right about the point and shoot Ely .. I wanted as little to carry as possible at the time due to the very hot and humid conditions which I was struggling with. Oh well, 'next time.
The three Frogmouths I was shown were only between 5 and 6 feet from the ground and in their favoured shrubs for 'disappearing into' as the dead leaves were identical in colour and markings to the birds themselves..
