There are times when I missed photographing a bird because the minimum focussing distance for my 800mm is 6 meters. This time I had the 300mm and the minimum focussing distance is 2.5 meters, by my side just in case there will be birds at less than 6 meters. I had two opportunities, the Chestnut Munia at 5.52 meters and the Zebra Dove at 4.17 meters. These pictures were taken with Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM in Candaba all hand held. 1/1000 sec., f/8, ISO 400 1/1000 sec., f/8, ISO 400 1/1000 sec., f/8, ISO 400 1/250 sec., f/8, ISO 400 1/250 sec., f/8, ISO 400

Nice shots Ka Ely T! It just goes to show that it's worth keeping shorter lenses in your arsenal for times like those you mentioned above. :-)

As a lad, my father taught me the name of the dove above: "Paloma silvestre" (silver dove).

Love the 2nd portrait of the munia.
I always have a hard time exposing this bird. Its feathers always look more like leather every time I took a picture of it. Great Exposure job Tito Ely!

Thank you Martin. Your pictures of birds when taken at a close distance were always stunning. After having taken pictures of birds for almost 4 years and seeing what others have taken, I can only conclude that the closer you are to the bird the better your image quality. If possible always go for FF (Full Frame). Cheers & Mabuhay.
