A group of birdnuts (Mike, Clemn, Mares, Tito, Sylvia and myself) went to Mt. Polis last month. We got a good set of birds and had lots of laughs. This one bird, a Mountain Shrike, I got to take on two different days in the same area. On the first day it was cold, wet and rainy. On the second day super sunny. Here are pics of the same bird, two different days. MOUNTAIN SHRIKELanius validirostrisPhilippine endemic 5dmk3, 500mm, 1.4xtc, 1/800, f7.1, ISO 1000

Excellent photos Tonji! Had close looks of the MS, but never got to fire a single shot. Must go back!

Because it is only found it high altitudes and has been a frustration for some bird photographers this Mountain Shrike makes it among the top of the list of desired birds. With these photos you can now removed it from your list. Well done Tonji & Mabuhay.

Ramon, the Mountain Shrike is a cool endemic. Good target bird for the Mountain Province.
Mike and Clemn, lets go again.
Ely, yup it is a bit more shy than the other shrikes. I first got it a few years ago, then we had the good encounters this last trip. I've only seen it in the Mountain Province.
