Hello again! I am finally making an appearance on this forum after being away for a long time. This morning I went bird watching with a new friend, and managed to get a couple of reasonable ID shots. The first is a Minivet. There is some debate as to which exact sub-species it is. Panasonic Lumix FZ48 - F5.2, 1/250s, 24x optical zoom, cropped. The second is a pair of starlings which have been identified as Short-tailed Glossy Starlings, which was a lifer for me (at least to have it confirmed). I like the colorful Minivet. It must have been quite a thrill to see and photograph this bird. Well done Brian & Mabuhay.

Was the minivet up on Mt Apo too, Brian?

Yes, Des, the minivet was on the lower slopes of the Mt Apo range; on the path that is a bit beyond the Eden resort.
Thanks Eli. Yes, it was exciting to see the minivet. Only my second time to see this bird.

Although from the KG distribution it might seem to be johnstoniae, plumage-wise it looks like nigroluteus. But I think a lot more genetic work needs to be done on Philippine minivets...
