Here are more birds from my July trip to Sabang, Puerto Princesa, Palawan with experienced bird guide Rommel Cruz. Canon 1D Mark IV camera, 800 mm lens, tripod. BLUE-EARED KINGFISHER ( Alcedo meninting amadoni) The amadoni race is endemic to Palawan. This BEK was bringing a fish to its nest/burrow. This was a lifer for me. F/5.6, ISO-3200 1/160 second, manual exposure. ASIAN FAIRY-BLUEBIRD ( Irena puella tweeddalei) - male The tweeddalei race is endemic to Palawan. I had waited many years to see the AFB in the wild. ;D 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-1000, 1/50 second, manual exposure. WHITE-VENTED SHAMA ( Copsychus niger) Uncommon endemic of Palawan. 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-3200, 1/25 second, manual exposure. DARK-THROATED ORIOLE ( Oriolus xanthonotus persuasus) – Immature male Uncommon resident of Palawan. This was a lifer for me. 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-800, 1/500 second, manual exposure. DARK-THROATED ORIOLE – Immature male 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-800, 1/320 second, manual exposure. LOVELY SUNBIRD ( Aethopyga shelleyi) – male Endemic. F/5.6, ISO-4000, 1/500 second, manual exposure. LOVELY SUNBIRD – female F/5.6, ISO-3200, 1/200 second, manual exposure. PALAWAN TIT ( Parus amabilis) Uncommon endemic of Palawan. This was a lifer for me. 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-1000, 1/320 second, manual exposure. YELLOW-THROATED LEAFBIRD ( Chloropsis palawanensis) Endemic to Palawan. 1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-800, 1/200 second, manual exposure. TABON SCRUBFOWL ( Megapodius cumingii cumingii) Resident. F/5.6, ISO-2000, 1/20 second, manual exposure.

Looks like another very successful sortie for you Ramon. I really like Palawan and should really go back there coz I missed a lot of birds during our first visit there.
I like the leafbird and the lovely sunbird shots a lot... I like seeing the feather details of the bird.

Another great set, Ramon! Most of these we missed when we were at Puerto about a week before you were there. I like the Blue-eared shot with the fish in its beak.

Ramon, Your instinct is right for the Oriole, an immature male transitioning. Not a female.
By the way, Aethopyga shelleyi is now monotypic. Everything else formerly associated (all the other races) with it went into Aethopyga bella.
