Still from the hard disk, a recently processed image from my last trip to Olango this year. It was interesting to watch this bird fly back and forth its hunting grounds. Gave me a good practice for BIF shooting. The background is OOF sandbar and some vegetation. All comments welcome. Whiskered Tern ( Chlidonias hybridus) Olango Wildlife Sanctuary, Cebu 40D, 400/5.6, ISO 400, f/7.1, 1/2000 sec, manual, handheld

It looks like the Whiskered Tern is approaching breeding plumage. The beak is starting to turn red and when they do it looks like its been painted red. Lovely shot. Well done Mark & Mabuhay.

Ely: Interesting observation on the bill. Never noticed it. There is a place in Binmaley, Pangasinan where the birds like the Whiskered Tern and Brahminy Kite are quite active in the fishpond area. It was Romy who recommended that place to me. The food there is very good especially the inihaw na hito. They are big and the fat in the stomach is thick. If the Terns are in breeding plumage I would like to go back for the bird and the food. It takes about 4 hours to get there. Here is the thread where I saw the Whiskered Tern in its breeding plumage: birdphotoph.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=photo&action=display&thread=5634

Great detail on the tern and it really shows the reddish bill. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent capture Mark. You wouldn't believe this but... I actually miss taking photos of all those terns in Candaba when the farmers are preparing the fields for planting.
