Not only that the Chicks are about to fledge in 2-3 days but the real surprise was there is an egg in the nest! 5DM3 + 600 f4 IS + 2x kenko TC, f5, 1/60 sec, ISO 1600, Tripod-Gimbal support - June 27, 2012 f4

Wow! An egg! I never even thought that a female with 3-week old nestlings would still lay eggs. Is that usual? I hope the nestlings don't trample the egg or eat the chick when the egg hatches.
My caretaker Chris said today that he saw the 2 nestlings leave the nest but they returned. He thinks they could fledge any day now.
It looks like the 2 nestlings are females. Nice photos.

This is incredible. I can see the egg in both of your pictures and it seems to be the size of a small chicken egg. It looks like it does not have any pigmentation on the shell that is common to birds. It only took 3 weeks for the hatchlings to grow. I guess they still come back to the nest to be fed because they have not yet fully acquired the skills to hunt on their own. Ramon was right when he said that the Besra sometimes uses the old nest but he too is surprised that it happened so soon. Thank you for your scoop. Well done Neon & Mabuhay.

I think the availability of food is the primary stimulant for most of the breeding. This is a sign that the "Nest reporting and caring" scheme is working! Maybe when the nestling finally abandons the nest the female will lay another egg? Lets watch and see what happens. Hopefully when I get paroled again there would be another set of chicks. :-)

Perhaps it is an unhatched egg from the batch? Bugok as we locals like to call it. I believe its too soon to have another egg.

Hi Carmela, that was what I was thinking at first, that the egg was their still born sibling but upon checking the previous photos that were posted, I could not see an egg in any of the photos. There is a possibility that the chicks were sitting on it but on one photo where the chicks moved to the other side no egg was visible.
