You have a 5D M3 and a 1D Mark IV but you are not taking advantage of the high ISO capabilities and taking a big chance with a low shutter speed. Sayang. The Frogmouth must be super near that you are using a 400 instead of your 500. Thank you for sharing your pictures. Well done Boymac & Mabuhay.

I always go for low ISO shot. Btw, do you know whats " MLU " ?

Superb captures! I can see all the different feathers and patterns. You can really learn a lot from these photos. Great job. Interesting coloration on the beak and great detail on the feather pattern on the tail. And what's with the bug on the side? It does not eat bugs? Cool shots.

I intentional post this photo to share the difference of the two phases. I would be also interesting to hear comment from the experts ( Steve & Des ) regarding on the transition between two phases. With regards to the Cicada it happens to be there when we pass by going home from the second frogmouth site. I have no idea what does the frogmouth feeds on. If it feeds on insect I'm sure it will not be long that the bird devour that Cicada. I have notice that there are plenty of nesting frogmouth in the Bohol this year compare last year. On my two trips this month its a total of 4 nesting birds. All three are in brown phase and one in rufous phase. The one Raja has more yellowish bill.
