It is more fun with the Flycatchers because they usually pick a perch that is in the open so they have a panoromic view of what is in front of them and makes it easy for them to see and catch the flies. After flying out more often than not they will return to the same perch and that is why it is more fun as they do return to their perches. Other birds they fly and don't return which can be frustrating. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS USM with Canon Extender 2X II. Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light. The Tufted Flycatcher (Mitrephanes phaeocercus) is a delight to photograph as very often it would fly back to its original perch giving the photographer a return opportunity to photograph the bird. 1/100 sec., f/8 ISO 800 1/100 sec., f/8 ISO 800 1/100 sec., f/8 ISO 800 1/160 sec., f/8 ISO 800 1/160 sec., f/8 ISO 800 The Black-capped Flycatcher (Empidonax atriceps) is endemic to Costa Rica & Panama. Very often the birds would be endimic to both countries because of their common border. 1/2000 sec., f/8, ISO 800 1/2000 sec., f/8, ISO 800 1/320 sec., f/8, ISO 800 1/320 sec., f/8, ISO 800 1/5000 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800

Very nice! Only endemic to Costa Rica and Western Panama though, Ely. It is because of the shared mountain range.

Thank God that I had the opportunity to go there, see a lot of beautiful birds and being able to photograph some of them.

Very beautiful set! Costa Rica is home to lovely flycathchers and some of them are truly beautiful such as the Long-tailed Silky. Thank you Ariel. I am still sorting out the birds taken at San Gerardo de Dota. At the rate of processing and sharing the birds once a week I think it will still be a couple of months for me to be done with this place. Were it not for you I would never have thought of going to Costa Rica. Much obliged to you Ariel. Mucho Gracias.
