I have not posted photos for a while in PBPF. Here are some photos of birds this summer season in Bangkong Kahoy Valley and Mt. Banahaw.
Canon 1D Mark IV camera, Canon EF 800 mm lens, Gitzo tripod, Wimberley head.
BRUSH CUCKOO
Taken on 4/1/12 in the understorey of the forest from my front deck in BK Valley.
F/5.6, ISO-1600, 1/200 second, manual exposure.
Taken on 2/26/12 in the understorey of the forest from my front deck in BK Valley. Note the gnat drinking fluid from the BC's eye.
1.4x extender, F/8, ISO-800, 1/125 second, manual exposure.
YELLOWISH WHITE-EYE
Taken on 4/1/12 by my front deck in BK Valley.
F/5.6, ISO-1600, 1/3200 second, manual exposure. I was shooting into the understorey when I noticed this YWE right above me in the early sunlight. I did not have time to change the ISO because White-Eyes are so quick and always moving.
SCALE-FEATHERED MALKOHA
Taken on 4/6/12 at the edge of the mossy forest in Mt. Banahaw at 3,300 feet above sea level. This SFM and its mate came back to the same tree with food 3 times in an hour, which indicates that they have a nest with young. The nest was too high up to see, and appears to be inside a bird's nest fern (what an apropos name) growing on the trunk and a branch of a big tree 30 feet up.
F/5.6, ISO-1600, 1/250 second, manual exposure.
CHESTNUT-FACED BABBLER
Taken on 3/17/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL.
1.4x extender, F/13, ISO-250, 1/100 second, manual exposure.
Taken on 3/4/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL.
F/5.6, ISO-1000, 1/1250 second, manual exposure.
PLAIN BUSH-HEN
Taken on 3/17/12 at our PBH feeding station in BK Valley.
1.4x extender, F/5.6, ISO-800, 1/320 second, manual exposure.
By the way, I recorded the successful hatching of 2 PBH chicks on 4/5/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL. The local farmer who reported the nest to me a week earlier and protected it until the hatching, received 2 bonuses of P500 each under our program for protecting birds' nests.
CITRINE CANARY-FLYCATCHER
Taken on 3/3/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL. This CCF looks like it is singing into a microphone.
F/5.6, ISO-400, 1/800 second, manual exposure.
BICOLORED FLOWERPECKER
Taken on 3/4/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL.
F/5.6, ISO-400, 1/2500 second, manual exposure.
MOUNTAIN VERDITER-FLYCATCHER
Taken on 3/3/12 in Mt. Banahaw at 3,500 feet ASL.
F/5.6, ISO-400, 1/250 second, manual exposure. Even though there is a branch in the way, I like this photo because of the shimmering blue.
