This is not an easy bird to photograph for me. The 1,200mm effective focal length afforded by the 2.0x TC provides little to bring the distant subject closer for the initial bursts. The branches of the tree did not help either. The bird did give us a short window of opportunity for closer shots which I sharing in this thread.
I'm very happy with the results. I'm sure the IQ can be improve without the TC and/or better lighting condition but I can't ask for more given the circumstances of the capture, rarity of this bird and the fact that it was a "lifer" for me.
Thanks for viewing.

Great captures of a spectacular and rare bird, Nilo. Congrats on your lifer. Would be a lifer for me too. We're hoping to photograph the FBFD in Mt. Banahaw, since the locals say it is there high up the mountain.

Great find Nilo! Congrats on the lifer! In the 3rd picture, the orange part looks like it's extending all the way up the shoulder! Is it the angle, because it's head is turned??

What a beautiful bird. The TC was a necessity to capture the bird on your CF card and it turned out very clear. Well done Nilo & Mabuhay.

It's a flaming shot Nilo. What a beautiful bird it is .... If I will see this bird in the wild I might enjoy watching it and might forget to press my shutter.

Great find Nilo! Congrats on the lifer! In the 3rd picture, the orange part looks like it's extending all the way up the shoulder! Is it the angle, because it's head is turned?? Yes the head turn caused the orange part to extend up to the shoulder area but in the other photos this is not the case. Thanks Sylvia.
