Hi. I just want to share a delightful experience on using zoom when placed on this particular situation. I found out that on the 1st photo the bird looks like on its unnatural habitat because of the concrete posts and tubings. Black-headed Gull ( Chroicocephalus ridibundus ) Nikon D300s, Sigma 150-500 @ 500mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/640 sec So I zoomed out the lens to provide a pleasing scene of birds on its natural habitat. Thanks for looking. May we all have an enjoyable Summer Birding Trips BIRDNUTS! Black-headed Gull ( Chroicocephalus ridibundus ) Nikon D300s, Sigma 150-500 @150mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/800 sec Black-headed Gull BIF Nikon D300s, Sigma 150-500mm @ 225mm, ISO 200, F8, 1/1000sec

What a big difference between the cropped photo and the one where one can see the complete scenery. The one where you can see the complete scenery is definitely more pleasing to the eyes I really like how you were able to control the whites. Most of the time we get blown out or overexposed whites but yours was perfect.

Hello Ma'am Tina. Thank you for the comment. I'm happy you agreed with me that my second photo offers a pleasing scene to the viewers. A lot of times this was also shown from among the photos posted by the different authors of this forum. As a student of this hobby, I learned from those shared photos that environmental shots can also show and tell a lot about the subject of interest.
As to the handling of the whites, I underexposed to -1ev because I didn't want to blow out the whites then I adjusted the photo exposure using APERTURE.

I agree with you Luisito. Now we can all see that there are more birds in the habitat.

@ Ely: It is always a joyful feeling to capture a scene of birds in their healthy habitat even if these places are a rarity when you are living in a growing city. I hope these kind of photos will inspire some of our city builders to provide such a place ( manmade or natural) to be shared with our feathered friends. Cheers!
