The Zamboanga Bulbul was one of our top target birds for our Zamboanga trip because it is only found in Basilan, Zamboanga Pennisula and Lake Lanao. I have no present plans of birding in Basilan or Lake Lanao, so it was great to be able to have seen and photographed this bird in our last trip. This bird looks like a Philippine Bulbul with a slightly darker head and no streaks on the throat. The Zamboanga bulbul is also slightly larger. It is also a shy bird in comparison to the Philippine Bulbul and did not break out into song like the Philippine Bulbul so often does. There were children with slingshots all over the place so I think that is part of the reason they were quite shy. They also seemed to have lesser numbers in the forest compared to the Yellow Vented Bulbul and even the Yellow-Wattled Bulbul. Nice captures Tonji. In Bohol I was able to get a documentary shot of the Philippine Bulbul which I saw for the first time. Now I know there's another kind -- the Zamboanga Bulbul.

Tirso, glad you liked it. There are 11 species of bulbuls in the Philippines. We have photographed 10 of them and just need the Streak-breasted Bulbul in Siquijor. Hmmm we have to go there one day. The Philippine Bulbul you got in Bohol saturatior is different from the race here in Luzon philippinus. Great start to your collection. I have seen lots of Philippine Bulbuls in Makiling and Palay Palay. I am sure you will have lots of pictures of philippinus before long.

Thanks Clemn, did you get a shot you liked?
Thanks Nilo, if it were lower it would have been nicer. But we did not have too many chances for a nice picture with this bird. Strange for a bulbul, usually they are so easy. Oh, well....they are wild birds after all...
