Two of our target birds for our Zamboanga birding trip were the White-eared Tailorbird and the Zamboanga Bulbul. Both of these birds are found only in Western Mindanao and are supposed to be relatively common and easy to see. They were indeed easy to see and hear, BUT taking a photo was another matter! Like other tailorbirds, the White-eared Tailorbird would usually stay hidden inside the bushes. The Zamboanga Bulbuls would fly by quickly or if they perched (on the very tall trees!!!), they would hide their faces behind the tree branches! We (me, Tonji, Clemn and Marester Macasiano) were feeling some stress and pressure to take pictures of these two target birds! According to Clemn, if you go to Zamboanga and you didn't get a picture of the two birds, it's like you didn't even go to Zamboanga! Haha! White-eared Tailorbird Orthotomus cinereiceps I had a lucky break! The tailorbird perched on this small tree with a caterpillar in its beak! f5.6, iso1600, 1/100 <-- it very shady there Zamboanga Bulbul Ixos rufigularisAnd here's the not so lucky break. Aaargh! I don't know, the camera didn't want to focus! Here's my picture just to prove I was in Zamboanga! It looks very similar to a Philippine Bulbul, except that it does not have streaks on its throat and chest. f8, iso400, 1/100 Canon 5DMark2 + 300 2.8 + 2xtc + tripod

Hehe, Tina! There were Yellow-vented and Yellow-wattled Bulbuls also. Even those were far! I think Tonji has nice pics of them though.

The photo of the White-eared Tailorbird with the green worm is a rarity. We all know how tough it is to nail the Tailorbirds. To do that and with a worm on its beak, it is time to celebrate. Well done Sylvia & Mabuhay.
