Clemn and Marester came back to Manila and we continued our Luzon tour. We were lucky to see a lot of species again. This particular bird was one of the highlights of the day. LITTLE GREBETachybaptus ruficollis700mm, 1/1000, f10

I hope it hatches. We took some photos then left quickly so we would not disturb it.

Grebes cover their eggs with vegetation when they leave the nest. Lovely photo!

Amazing shot, Tonji! I guess they only lay one egg per breeding season.

This is just awesome, Tonji! Great capture of the bird's behavior and very good technicals, too. You must have been very close.

Thanks guys. Bob I have seen them with three chicks. In 2009 Sylvia and I saw a family in Candaba and got some photos. Here is the picture taken in 2009 with the three chicks. One of them is on the back, hiding. We arrived early and had a nice soft warm light.

Wonderful shots of one of my favourite water birds. Maybe the first egg of the clutch hence it's pristine, clean appearance. I think they usually become very soiled when they have been covered by nesting material a few times as Des pointed out. So maybe more eggs to come?

Nice find Tonj. I like how the grebe guards her egg....kinda like how you guard your beer cooler!
Killer shot on the Grebe family. One of the best I have seen!

Mike... they might still be there or maybe the eggs hatched. If so then great pictures of the chicks if they are swimming around.
Fred, yup three chicks seems to be the average then.
thanks- Ramon, Ely, Mick, Clemn
Martin- pare, we guard the beers in the cooler till they reach optimum temperature. After reaching ice cold goodness....they hatch. Time to go birding Martin bring Boy G.
