Almost missed this seasons Candaba migrants but finally found time to go there yesterday afternoon. There were not much ducks in the northwestern pond, where the watch tower is situated. There were around 20 ducks swimming in the middle of the pond (mostly GWT, a pair of Tuffted and some Garganeys) and it was the first time for me to see the GWT out in the open, finally got my clear shot of the GWT. Previous shots were head shots among the grass. Green winged (Eurasian) Teal (Anas crecca) 5DM2 + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f4 (f8), 1/160 sec, ISO 640, manual exposure, lens on car window support.

Nice shot Neon. Congrats on your first "clear" GWT opportunity. I saw my first Goosanders today (here in the UK) but they were too far away to retain quality when cropped alas.
Happy birding,
Mick

I only saw the female GWT. The male is remarkably handsome. I tried to make out the eyes and I could see that it has two colors. The design of the feathers on the chest & wings are so intricate. The vent is also colorful. What a difference between the male & female. It looks like a very far shot but at least you gave us the chance of seeing this beautiful duck. Well done Neon & Mabuhay.

Thanks Mick, Ely and Ramon, wish I'd have more time to go birding, need to pack my bags now. :-( @ Ely, here's a bigger crop for your appreciation. Used the 40D on this one for added reach. 40D + 600 f4 IS + 2x Kenko TC, f5.6 (f11), 1/125 sec, ISO 400, manual exposure, lens on car window support.
