The Great Cormorant is a rare visitor to our islands. Sylvia and I have been lucky to come across a few of them in our recent trips. This bird let me get close enough to get a good picture of the green eye and pupil. GREAT CORMORANTPhalacrocorax carboSabtang, Batanes 1/500 f8 ISO 160

With those green eyes must be a foreigner. LOL. You took the best part of the Great Cormorant. Well done Tonji & Mabuhay.

Yup Ely this bird was very common when we went to Turkey. I saw them flying in V formation, sitting on phone wires, and flying around the river.
But here they are not as easy to see.
We saw them in Batan Island, Sabtang Island and on our last trip to Laoag.

Nice close-up, Tonji. Looks just like the Great Cormorants I captured in Lake Geneva, Switzerland. What a range this bird has.

Thanks guys. We saw a lot of them in Batanes but not in the numbers we saw in Turkey. Man, they were all over the place in big flocks. I found that picture of the v formation flying over the Bosphorus straight in Turkey.

Great capture of the cormorant. The first time I saw this bird was in Chicago and the first time I got a photo of this bird was in China. The fishermen in China use them to catch fish.

Thanks William, so these are the birds they use in the river to catch fish. Tough life for the birds.
Thanks Rey, I think you may see them soon. I have seen a lot already since October. Maybe they will be coming down south.
