Finally got a close in-flight capture of this Eagle. Enjoying the colors and the reflections of the Little Egrets in the green waters of La Mesa Eco Park, went back again yesterday hoping the reflections will be beautiful again. I was pleasantly surprised that the Serpent Eagle was there again and saw it gliding, while concentrating intensely on its target prey. I was so glad to capture this image that was quite close. Philippine Serpent-eagle (Spilornis holospilus), La Mesa Eco Park, 12-28-11 50D + EF500, f5.6, 1/640, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Handheld

Can you please PM me exactly where in LMEP you went? I might go tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks.

Thank you Ramon. If you're familiar with the area where the White Wagtails are, that is also where this bird frequently shows up. The trees around that area is where it perches and the spill way grounds is the place where it hunts. Will PM you my new cell number just in case you need to call when you're there. Good luck, hope you catch it. It was there the last two times I was there.

By the way, this is the bird when it landed after missing its target. It landed closer to my vantage point.

Great shot, Rey. Fantastically sharp BIF at 1/640. Thanks a lot Doc. Had to lessen the SS it was quite dark in the area because of the trees, good thing it was only gliding so I was thinking 1/640 could still be sharp.

A great shot of an impressive bird. It was a pleasure to meet you and the gang at Candaba ... it already seems as though I dreamt it now that I'm back in the familiar cold and wet of a British winter.
