Last weekend, I heard a loud tweet from the outside of my house. It turned out to be an olive-backed sunbird which was trying to feed on the nectar of an ornamental plant by our stairs. Luckily, my gear was just close by so I was able to take several photos of the bird at a distance of about 5 meters. For all pictures, I used my Canon EOS 7D, EF 100-400mm L IS USM, handheld and natural light. Fantastic series Prof, the first image with the clean background and photogenic flowers is the most wicked of the lot.

Wow! Excellent exposure in all. This is one of the hardest to expose of birds because of the contrast between the dark blue throat and the bright yellow belly and you handled it quite nicely on this set, Prof Tirso!
Just wondering, did you use some NR software? The noise was handled extremely well on these high ISO shots.

Just wondering, did you use some NR software? The noise was handled extremely well on these high ISO shots. Thanks Neon. I think I was lucky the lighting conditions were good, though it was on the low side. I may have been also aided by the light reflection from my wall. Yes, some noise reduction was applied although I noticed that the original noise level was minimal. Since my captures are in raw format, I open it using Adobe Camera Raw. Here, aside from the usual adjustments in exposure, brightness and contrast, vibrance, etc., I also applied some minor adjustments in sharpness and luminance.
