My cousin and I chanced upon this Pied Bushchat nest when we decided to stop along the road to rest and fix our photo bags since we decided to head back home. Imagine our surprise when we saw the female pied bushchat peeping into a hole and then leaving right away after dropping something. Decided to open the window of the car and then I saw the tip of a small yellow beak moving and then later on we saw 2 beaks ... the rest is history ;D 40D + 300mm f/4L IS with 2x Kenko TC ; 1/60sec ; ISO 200 ; f/8 ; MF ; handheld I am hoping that I will get to take photos of the mama or papa pied bushchat feeding the chicks. All these photos were taken with us inside the car only so as not to disturb the birds.

Thanks a lot Romy. Too bad that we were not able to take photos of the mama pied bushchat when she decided to feed the chicks - it all happened so fast. Took a few photos and decided to leave right away so that the mama or the papa bushchat can go back to the nest to feed the young ones.

Those birds are so cute. Some steady hands you got Idol, handheld at 1/60, you don't need Tripods. Great work Idol.

HehEHehHEheEHe Rey, if only you could have seen me. I was not breathing at all for fear that my body would shake. Half of my shots had shake in them so had to dump them. It was really hard not to be able to use a bean bag or a tripod. I was shooting from the driver's side while my cousin was there at the passenger's side and she was trying to take photos too. She was nearer the birds so was trying to take those shots without a support at all. Couldn't even lean on the car seat coz if I did, I will be able to take pictures of my cousin's head and not the birds across her. HehHEhHEheHEhe we addicts really find a way to shoot those birds even at very unusual positions !!! Thank you very much Rey

Thanks Neon. Maybe they hi-jack the homes of the bee-eaters ? Nah, their holes are much bigger than the bee-eaters.
It's kinda scary coz the chicks can easily be taken by other birds. They were right there at the opening of the hole calling out for the mama & papa pied bushchat.

Remember we saw then trying to snatch the baby bee-eaters from the hole, good that the bee-eaters holes are deep not like this one It's good that there are no crows or even shrikes around.

Plain Tina was kind enough to bring CF Master JP and I to these cute nestlings. It was quite a sight to see as I've never seen chicks in the wild.
