As mentioned earlier by Manny, according to the Director of Manila Zoo, there are lots of wildbirds that are roosting among the trees of the zoo. The birds normally rest there in the night and fly out to Manila Bay in the morning and comes back at night to roost. The Director who is a Vet is very familiar with the birds. Among the birds that I remember, he mentions that Black Nape Orioles, ASG's, White Breated Sea Eagle (got docu pics of both), Kites, Egrets, Black Crowned and Rufous Night Herons, Common Hill Myna, White Eared Doves, Coletos and rarely a Dollar Bird can be found in the early morning at the zoo. Below is the Rufous Night-Heron which is a lifer for me. Rufous Night-Heron (Nycticorax caledonicus) 40D+EF400@1/640,F6.3,ISO200,Handheld

They look so pathetic No idol Natins, these are some of the birds that roost there at night and flies out in the morning. You can catch them in the morning. Here's a capture of the ASG and the Chinese egret that also stays with these birds in the morning. Actually the first time I saw them, I thought they were the zoo's birds and didn't have the interest to take photos until I learned that they were wild birds and are just roosting there at night like the White-Bellied Sea Eagle which I showed to Manny. They are saying that the Manila Zoo is the nearest wooded area adjacent to Manila Bay so the birds prefer to stay there during the night and goes back to their feeding grounds during the day. I guess the presence of the caged birds also draws them to this place. Chinese Egret Photo of this one is not very nice just for docu work. The White-Bellied Sea Eagle

WOW Cool !!!! So, when are you showing me please where they roost Rey ? HeHEHheHEHehHEHeE It's so easy to find. A lot of them stay with the other birds in the "island". Some are in the other trees but the problem is the zoo opens late at around 8AM. We should get a permission from the Zoo Director so we can enter at around 6AM. The guy's easy to talk to and he actually wants somebody to document the wild birds for them. I think Manny can make the arrangment with the Director.
