Got this female Tarictic Hornbill last Saturday in Subic with Rey, Alain, and Olan. The original shot shows a pair but the male (he was on the right) was in no way of helping the shot so I decided cropping him out would be better. The birds were at a distance and this was the best angle we could find. Wished the light was better and that branch at the bottom wasn't there but I think this is my first usable photo of the female so it's a keeper. Tarictic Hornbil / Luzon Hornbill ( Penelopides manillae, female), endemic Subic, Zambales, 11 Jun 2011 40D, 400 f/5.6, ISO 400, f/8, 1/125 sec, manual exposure, handheld, major crop

Certainly it's a keeper! I'd be delighted with such a shot.

Of course it's a keeper Mark, don't be too hard on yourself. Good job on the DOF control, over the shoulder shots like this normally doesn't work if you forgot to stop down enough.

At first, I asked, what does he want? You have raised the bar for yourself, Mark, I guess you really have become a true disciple of the Ka Mastah. Way to go. I am your avid fan.
I have not seen a Tarictic lately. I'm glad they are still around. telyds

A bird on hand is better than two in the bush. I will be happy with a beautiful capture like this one. Never mind the branch, this is photography in the wild and no props. Well done Mark & Mabuhay.

Thanks, Adri. Anything that I crop to less than 2000px on the long side (prior any resizing) is a "major crop" for me. ;D

Nice shot Mark. I have yet to see a Tarictic Hornbill but I heard some could be found in LB.
