Went to Subic last weekend with Alain, Mark and Olan and saw a big flock of Guiaberos feeding very early in the morning. The light was still inadequate to get enough shutter speeds to freeze the feeding birds and there were a lot of blurries. Of the dozens of shots fired I was glad to have at least two decent keepers. Guiabero (Bolbopsittacus lunulatus), Endemic, Subic Rainforest, 12/11/11 50D + EF500, f5.0, 1/80, ISO 800, Manual Exposure, Handheld

Beautiful shots, Rey. How close were you?
I have never been able to take a good photo of a Guaiabero.

Thanks a lot Ramon. It was a pretty close encounter, these fellows were busy feeding and didn't mind me as I was shooting inside my car just across the narrow street. Cars are really the best blinds you can find.

Thanks Gabs. There's a tree in Tarlac Eco Park where you can get full frame captures of this endemic Parrot if the fruits are ripe enough. I think it's a good time to visit the place within within the next few weeks.

Nice captures, Rey. With the lighting condition, it was challenging to freeze even the slow eating movements of these guys.

Thanks Mark, if you will notice I was almost open wide at f5.0 in ISO 800 still there was not enough light to get more keepers.

Its always a plus when you can get close to the bird. Looks like you had your feast too taking the pictures of the Guiaberos. Well done Rey & Mabuhay.
