I would have missed going to this place were it not for Romy & the mangoes of Masinloc. There are birds in the area but somehow I feel there could have been more if the timing was right. I certainly would like to go back. Thank you Romy for recommending the place and for telling me about the mangoes that were super sweet. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f5.6L IS USM, Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head except for the Little Heron & Bee-eaters, where I used the beanbag on top of the car window. Manual exposure in available light. Little Heron (Butorides striata) 1/400 sec., f/8, ISO 200 Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) Focussing distance 95 meters 1/1600 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800 Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) Focussing distance 95.9 meters 1/1600 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800 Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) 1/800sec., f/8 ISO 200 Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) 1/2000 sec., f/8, ISO 800 Blue-tailed Bee-eater (Merops philippinus) Shooting distance 8.36 meters with 1.4 TC 1/200 sec., f/8, ISO 200 Blue-tailed Bee-eater (Merops philippinus) Focussing distance 10.8 meters 1/320 sec., f/8, ISO 200 Blue-tailed Bee-eater (Merops philippinus) Focussing distance 9.87 meters 1/320 sec., f/8, ISO 200

Beautiful set. Spot on sharpness, exposure and very nice composition on the Little Heron. Great exposure handling of the whites in the Bee Eaters and the Stilt. Congrats on a very fine job Ely.

Wondeful set you have here, Ely. Very sharp and the whites are well managed. I guess the first picture of the bee-eater was so closed to you as the framing is too tight, in contrast to the raptors which may be too far away.

Wow you were blessed with beautiful weather !!! Looks like the raptors were kinda far but the others are fantastic captures Ely. I've never seen a ruddy turnstone there and I have been there lots of times already. Must try again. Now I don't know if I should go to Bataan or in Sta.Cruz this weekend. Decisions... decisions. Since it's a 3 day weekend, I just might go to both places

amazing close up of the BTBE.. . thanks for sharing.. . Thank you Steve. The opportunity to get close to these birds only happens occasionally. That is why it is so nice to take the pictures of the Bee-eaters at Subic because they are so close.

Thank you Rey. It helps a lot when there is light to capture the colors of the birds. I am also glad that I chose to use Canon because their equipment delivers the photos that we all want.

I guess the first picture of the bee-eater was so closed to you as the framing is too tight, in contrast to the raptors which may be too far away. Thank you Alain. I look at the EXIF and found out that I had a 1.4 TC on my lens. Earlier I was taken pictures of the water birds which was some distance away and I installed the TC. When I saw the Bee-eater I forgot all about it until this bird came so close that I had a difficult time fitting him to the frame. There was hardly any crop except for the A3 size that I now size all my pictures to as it is an ISO standard.

Wonderful quality shots, Ely! Thank you Ramon. This is another place where the Bee-eaters do come close once in a while. But by this time the breeding season is over.

Since it's a 3 day weekend, I just might go to both places Thank you Tina. I was there early May because Romy told me that the migrants will be leaving soon. I only got to post this now as I have been going to different places and catching up with my postings. The Ruddy Turnstone is always walking and eating and maybe why it looks so round. Just as I was about to leave it stopped, and gave me some shots. It was far though as I had to use my 1.4 TC. Since migratory birds are gone, Subic might be a better alternative. Just hope that the sun shines should it rain so you will get to see a lot of birds drying up. Don't forget the mangoes at Masinloc in case you decide to go to Sta.Cruz. They are really sweet.

Beautiful captures, Ely. Although the osprey is a bit far, I like the fish in its talons.

Wonderful set here, Ely. Great job on the exposure. Tons of detail on the bee eaters. Thank you Mark. There is a small bee colony on one of the walls of the fishpond where the birds make their nest. It looks like they are getting use to seeing people.
