Hi all, On the way over from Bukidnon to Davao the other day, my wife took a couple of snaps of this raptor. Not good photos, but maybe someone can suggest an ID. The size was similar to a crested serpent eagle.

I suggest Serpent Eagle because of the wing patterns.

Thanks Kuya Rey. I'm a bit surprised though that it had such an ill-defined banding on the trailing edge of the wing. They usually seem to be much more marked. Is it perhaps immature? Changing to adult plumage?

I'm wondering about melanistic Oriental Honey Buzzard, given the small head and apparently longish tail. OHBs can be extremely variable. Immature serpent eagles are whitish and would not appear more dark than the adults. I am a bit hampered by the lack of easily available Philippine bird photos. Few Philippine birders post to OBI, and PBPF does not have species collated together.
