Sylvia and I are making another joint post so you don't have to see two threads with the same birds. The Red-Footed Boobies were a fun subject to photograph. The usual shape and the pink and blue colors made for interesting photography. I hope more birders get a chance to see and photograph these birds. I chose a mix of pictures for this set so you get to see flying, adults, immatures, close ups, nests, and chicks. Enjoy. Great shots, Tonji and Sylvia! Did you have to get special permit to land on the island?

Thanks William, Lawrence, Tina and Ramon. Tina, you should go next! Ramon, no one is allowed to go near the islands (islets). There is a 100 meter away rule enforced. But once a year TMO and WWF conduct a bird survey. They count the birds, nests, eggs and sometimes tag some birds. We were invited to join the bird survey to take pictures and find out if a bird tour would be possible for bird photographers and bird watchers.

That's good that today no one is allowed on Bird Island. During a dive trip to Tubbataha in the early 1990's, which was before entry was prohibited, we walked thru the island and there were huge fledglings and eggs on ground nests every 2-3 meters. It would have been very easy to accidentally step on them.

What a beautiful bird with red boots to boot. Well done Sylvia & Tonji. Mabuhay. I wonder if Freedom Island is also like that.

Thanks for sharing. This is a rare opportunity for most of us here to see these birds even in pictures. Cheers
