It was Bong who called them the Three Kings. I am calling them the Three Kings of Coron because the 3 of them are often there. There is a fourth King which I have not yet seen in Coron and it is the Stork Bill Kingfisher which is the largest one. This is the only place that I know of that gives one the opportunity to take pictures of the 3 almost every day. The human population in the area is growing and I think the day will come that we will not be able to see them snymore. There is a creek that they frequent looking for preys of small crabs, shrimps, and fish. The water at this time flows at a trickle. It may be good to go there during the rainy season and hope that it does not rain during one's stay in Coron. Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f5.6L IS USM, Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light. Ruddy Kingfisher (Halcyon coromanda) 1/50 sec., f/5.6, ISO 1600 Ruddy Kingfisher (Halcyon coromanda) 1/50 sec., f/5.6, ISO 1600 Ruddy Kingfisher (Halcyon coromanda) 1/60 sec., f/5.6, ISO 1600 Blue-eared Kingfisher (Alcedo meninting) The Blue-eared Kingfisher is distinguished from the Common Kingfisher by blue ear coverts, darker and more intense cobalt-blue upperparts with richer rufous under parts. 1/20 sec., f/5.6, ISO 3200 Blue-eared Kingfisher (Alcedo meninting) 1/50 sec., f/5.6, ISO 6400 Blue-eared Kingfisher (Alcedo meninting) 1/50 sec., f/5.6, ISO 6400 Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca) 1/40 sec., f/5.6, ISO 1600 Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca) 1/40 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800 Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca) 1/40 sec., f/5.6, ISO 800

Great set of Kingfishers Ely. Coron is a great place for photography. Aside from the Stork Bill the other Kingfishers in Coron are the Common and the White Collared. I guess there are 6 kings in Coron.

Wow! Wish I could go to Coron someday! All excellent captures as always, Ely! haven't set my eyes on this three kings yet Thank you Neon. I know you go to far away places just to see a particular bird. This place is a must for you. For a 4 day stay I would say that you will get no less than a dozen lifers. Go see them on your next parole. I can fill you in on the things that you need to know.

I guess there are 6 kings in Coron. Thank you Tonji. You are right but I seldom see the CKF and WCKF. But at the rare times that I have seen them I would choose other subjects that are common there but not seen here. However should they be close for a good picture than I will attempt to go for a better picture of the bird.

Wonderful photos Ely!, your specialist photographer of K.F by now!!. Thank you Tateo. Just like you I also like all kinds of Kingfishers. But on top of that any colorful bird that I can take a picture of, I would be more than happy.
