hi gang, i'd like to address this to the nikonites: i was offered a d80 body, brand new (why do cameras do not come with legs? at p35k, to be shipped from hongkong. gosh, parang nakakakaba naman if ganito ang price compared to P56k sold at columbia (nikon philippines). now: 1. is china producing nikon cameras na? how can we know the original china and the fake china? (aside from the "avoid shoot the sun, will hurting the eyes" kinda english) 2. what is the difference between the hongkong unit, and the unit from the columbia? 3. what are the (pros and cons) of d40x and d80? 4. if i have a d80 shipped from the US, shipping cost included at P36K, is the quality much better? or possibly china din? what are the risk? 5. d40x or d80? i'd like an answer sana. if my hard earned cash is not spent this week, im afraid it will vanish again (for the nth time) when the inaanaks and pamangkins prick my heart this christmas..hehehe.. pleaase, guys. thanks! -k rene

Hi Rene to answer your questions: 1. China aint producing any nikon bodies as far as i know. Thailand does and the D80s come from that country. As far as fakes are concerned, there are no fake nikon bodies that i know of. 2. the difference mainly is that the Hk unit is a grey unit meaning it didnt pay taxes and duties. CDSC is the authorized distributor of nikon products here in the country. my nikon d80 was bought in quiapo and is a grey unit. 3. if you have the extra money go with the D80 as the X wont meter with older lenses and only woks with AF-S lenses. 4. my personal take on this is to but a grey unit from a reputable shop or reseller like jerry tieng. its easier to claim warranty if its in the country rather than shipping the camera out if somethign goes wrong. 5. D80 - or the D300

o. i c, jp. gotcha.
checked jerry's website, too! and good to know there is only one source of nikon and that is thailand. i was real nervous when the offer came from hongkong. im closer to the decision now. a d80. thanks. i really value owners and experienced users. now will check how much it is to clean my 18-600mm nikon lense.
was also thinkin' how true is celestron's claim that nasa preferred the C-5. celestron says it's perfect for bird photography, havin a focal point of 1250mm. im selling my celestron C-90, complete kit, and bushnell trophy 20-60x65 for more than half the price they sell at han's. just to upgrade to celestron C-5.
will take off shootin' maybe last week of december..start em shootin' flyin' critters..(sabay spittin' like a Texan does..but im doing it ifugao way).
maraming, maraming salamat. i really value the words of wisdom. hangang sa pagkikita natin. let's do a palawan for 3 days.

hey fellas, i got my d80 dec 22..and all because of the driving (from dagupan to lucban quezon, then to losbanos then to villasis, pang, then to home), reunion things, wherein we were put in several committees, it is only last night that i was able to tinker with my "baby" not so hard to start with. got my old instincts, but had to adjust with the "fingerings" of the new tech. and hollie cow!!! the warning said my Nikkor ED 180-600 wont work!! it almost got me fainting on the floor!!! but after checking on the note, it said only a limited series (before AI) is the forbidden lens model. therefore, pwede pala!!! hahahahaha!! got to have it cleaned a little, ka romy. the glass is still ok, just some roots crawling on the outer glass. i hope there is still a remedy. but nevertheless, i think i can still work out some good outputs. until then, will be "sneakin out" just to hitch and shoot with u guys...hehehehe... let me try some 200mm for a while and try to post within a week later.. dami pa hassles at the office like closing accounts and finishing projects in mindanao till the 15th. thanks for all the inputs, guys. yes, jp, i bargained at P35.5th. and i nailed it. brand new, almost unused. the manuals is still crispy and super white, the box s still with the sticker, the cables still in the plastic bags. maybe it was really waiting for me. till then...shoot 'em flyin" critters' fellas!!.. happy new year!
