Pogito and I were shooting a Brahminy Kite ( Haliastur indus) in Binmaley, Pangasinan, a couple of days ago. We hid ourselves in a fishpond shed/restaurant, peering from opposite windows and waiting for the raptor to come within our individual shooting zones. This species normally comes out to hunt in mid-morning when the wind starts to blow. This allows it to soar with less wing flaps and thus conserving energy. It also means that exposing the bright head/neck and the dark body is a nightmare, given the harsh light. This bird just made a few passes before disappearing into the distance. I was shooting the supposedly better gear but I prefer Pogito's capture because the light angle was better on the eye area. Sometimes, I prefer to be lucky than shoot the better combo. My catch: 1D4 + 500 f4 IS + 1.4x TC, 1/2000 sec, f/7.1, ISO 400, 475B/516 support, manual exposure Pogito's capture: 7D + 400 5.6L, 1/2000 sec, f/7.1, ISO 400, hand held, manual exposure

Both beautiful photos, Romy and Pogito. Honestly, Pogito's capture is better than Romy's. Congratulations Pogito. Congratulations Romy, too. You are training Pogito to be better than you.

The father is always proud and happier if his son turns out to be better but I think the timing of the shot on this occasion, Pogito has got the better angle. I think the friendly competition is good for character building and the bottom line here is really the chance to bond. Congratulation to both father & son for the excellent captures and Mabuhay.

Ummmm, the son is taking after the father, I agree. But on my monitor, Ka Mastah's shot is still better. Hehehe. Both pics are world-class already, though. :-)
