I was slowly driving by NIGS in UP when I heard the "pokpok" call. I pulled aside and saw a CSB perched nicely, not so high, so I took some shots. Then it flew to another tree across- an acacia tree with a dead branch with 3 holes. Ha, ha. Here's what I got. It is easy to get a video. I guess the couple's getting ready for the eggs to hatch. There were also 3 Phil. pygmy woodpeckers and some Golden bellied flycatchers.

Congratulations on your discovery of the nest of these two Barbets. I don't know why there are 3 holes and they are so close to each other. Now we all have something to look forward to. Thank you for sharing Lyds & Mabuhay.

hello po ms. lydia, would like to know where the CSB nest is located? i am from NIGS and i have seen a CSB along the road going to the new CS amphitheater. thanks!! allan Hi Allan, I was there last Friday afternoon and I saw the Barbet still at the hole. I f you are in the parking lot and is facing the garden, the acacia tree is just about 20 steps if you take the sidewalk of the new road. It is just right before the creek. First there is a kakwate tree, then a camachile tree, and then the acacia tree. (Farther to the right is the swing). Look for the dead branch and you'd see 3 holes at the end. You'd hear the barbet. I saw the pair, no chickadees yet, siguro egg pa lang. So palitan yung dalawa. It's easy to find. What is interesting is why there are 3 holes. You will also see flycatchers and pygmy woodpeckers on the acacia tree. Madalas lang backlighted. Quite a challenge. I hope you get a good shot. I will look forward to that. cheerps, telyds

Very nice, Telyds! I was there last Saturday and bumped into Bob and Cynthia Kaufman. My lifer for the day was Adri Constantino. Bob spotted the holes. We saw the Barbets near, but not by or in the holes.
