I was invited by my High School classmate Dr. Butch Stewart to visit his farm which he calls Pulang Lupa. It is located in Tiaong, Quezon about 5 kilometers further from Mela's popular Villa Escudero. The property of 52 hectares straddles the Barangay of Lumingon & Lusacan. The house is located on top of the hill that is about 2.7 hectares overlooking Mount Makiling, Mount Banahaw and several other mountains. To know more about this place you can see it on this web site: www.stuartxchange.com/Canon EOS 1D Mark IV, Canon EF 800mm f/5.6L IS USM, Gitzo GT3530LS tripod, Wimberley WH200 head. Manual exposure in available light. These are the birds that I saw in the morning. There was a fruiting Alim tree but most of the fruits were not yet ripe. I also saw a nest of the Olive-backed Sunbird. It was interesting to learn the Tagalog names of some of the birds that I saw. Ibon Pare, Stripe-sided Rhabdornis (Rhabdornis mystacalis) Matang Isda, Golden-bellied Flycatcher (Myiodynastes hemichrysus) Kasay Kasay, White-Collared Kingfisher (Todiramphus chloris) Pulanga, Yellow-vented Bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier) Pagatpat, White-breasted Woodswallow (Artamus leucorynchus) Pulangang Tubig (Blue-tailed Bee-eater) Tibsok, Striated Grassbird (Megalurus palustris) Kasay Kasay, Indigo-banded Kingfisher (Alcedo cyanopectus) Grey Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea) Common Sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos) Pusit, Olive-backed Sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis) Brush Cuckoo (Cacomantis variolosus)

If you are sure that it is the Indigo Banded Kingfisher I will change the name. I am not sure because I did not get to see the chest of the bird. But the other blue birds that I saw were the WTKF. So for this one I am not sure but you may be right as it is very small. What do you say we call it?

I'm quite positive Ely, even the place is a known range of this pretty bird. Also, the White Throats doesn't have that white spot in the ears and the back feathers are very different.

I believe you are right and it is certainly encouraging to know that the Indigo-banded Kingfisher can be seen at Pulang Lupa. Thank you Rey for the ID on the bird.
